My passion for being a positive impact on the community has always been present since I could remember. At a younger age, I was uncertain of what being a positive impact in the community looked like or even the steps to begin that journey. When you don’t know where to start, or necessarily know what to do, you have to put yourself out there into the world and start gaining experiences. During these younger (ages 15-21) years I would volunteer at various Fitness & Wellness centers as a fitness instructor to teach the youth the importance of developing and implementing a healthy and positive lifestyle (exercising, eating healthy foods, the importance of mental and physical toughness, etc.). Unknowingly at the time, seeing and experiencing the positive impact I was having on the youth and their families was lighting an unwavering fire/passion within me.
My unwavering passion and desire to improve my skills to better serve underserved communities led me to work in many different positions within the mental health field. I’ve spent years working with children on the Autism Spectrum and their families, Children in Welfare Custody (CPS), children incarcerated in maximum juvenile detention facilities, children and families living in low socioeconomic income areas, adults recovering from substance use/abuse, and teens and adults who suffer from extreme and debilitating anxiety (OCD). Each work experience provided me with valuable experiences, knowledge, and personal and professional growth. However, what really got to me and added more fuel to my fire/passion was when I would interact with these individuals and they would share with me how their life hardships were exacerbated due to the lack of support, resources, empathy, understanding, guidance, and negative stigma’s around their circumstances.
The injustices that these vulnerable populations have to endure have never sat right with me. These individuals deserve love, support, patience, guidance, unconditional positive regard, empathy, and understanding. Instead, these populations are often ostracized by society and are left to fend for themselves. Often resulting in them experiencing increased hardships. Again none of this sits well with me. I believe “That you have to be the change you want to see in the world.” With this business, I want to create a Safe Haven of sorts for these vulnerable populations to feel understood, to feel loved, to feel supported, feel a sense of community, become inspired, and learn the skills and techniques they will need to help them navigate through life. My burning passion to be a positive impact on the community, my work experiences, actively working with and being in these communities, and my desire to be the change I want to see in the world is what touched my heart to start this business.
